The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is requesting for information on the appropriate reference amount customarily consumed and product category for flavored nut butter spreads, as well as products that can be used to fill cupcakes and other desserts.The FDA recently issued a final rule updating certain reference amount customarily consumed (RACC). The Agency has received a petition asking if “nut cocoa-based spreads” fall within the “Honey, jams, jellies, fruit butter, molasses” category for the purposes of RACC determination, or if a new category for “nut cocoa-based spreads” is established.The public consultation is the first step in the evaluation of the appropriate RACC and category for “nut cocoa-based spreads”.Comments must be received on or before January 3, 2017.More information
