Japan: MRLs Update

The Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare notified the World Trade Organization of the Revision of the Standards and Specifications for Foods and Food Additives under the Food Sanitation Act (revision of agricultural chemical residue standards).

As for nuts and dried fruits, the following MRLs were proposed:
  • The MRL for permethrin in cranberry, date and pecan is lowered from 5.0 ppm to 0.01 ppm and in walnut from 5.0 ppm to 0.05 ppm. In addition, in grape is increased from 5.0 ppm to 8.0 ppm.
  • The MRL for iminoctadine in apricot is increased from 0.5 ppm to 0.6 ppm, in grapes from 0.5 ppm to 0.9 ppm. However in dates is decreased from 0.5 ppm to 0.01 ppm and in pecan, almond and other nuts from 0.1 ppm to 0.01 ppm.
The deadline for comments is March 20, 2020.
