
The proposed legislative changes would change how some imported foods are inspected and analyzed. Among others, the Department is proposing some changes that would clarify the kind of foods that currently need to be inspected and analyzed, such as foods containing peanuts and pistachios due to aflatoxins. The department is also proposing other legislative changes to clarify ‘ready-to-eat’ foods.
Most of the legislative changes would commence in September 2017. The department requests that any comments are received by 5:00 pm AEST Monday, July 31, 2017.
